Surprise Love – The Flash Mob

Although I can watch shows and movies about singing and dancing (Glee, Fame, etc.) I get kind of embarrassed watching musicals, even on TV.  And live theater? Forget it! I can’t be in the audience when someone breaks into song in the middle of a dramatic moment. Apologies to those who love musical theater, but I cannot seem to suppress my giggles.

This is why I’m so surprised at my love for Flash Mob musical numbers. I’m obsessed! This is how a musical should be—unpolished and surprising, complete with people who look completely confused by what is going on around them. There’s a raw energy about these videos that I adore.

Here’s a new one from Ohio State Student Union. Love that the University President got involved!

I want to organize one of these someday. Perhaps next year with some high school kids. Love it!

Their was three in one day recently here in Seattle, the same group running from one site to the next. There was supposed to be hundreds involved and the sites weren't told to those involved until the morning of...pretty cool.

I love musicals, though I see your point. But I love the flash mob! I hadn't seen that video yet--thanks for sharing! :)

I want to be in the Flash Mob! My kids are Irish Dancers and I've seen some youtube clips from some guys called the Sneaky Steppers who just kind of "ambush dance" at places in England and Ireland.

Drive-by dancing is the way to go!

having lived in ann arbor, i didn't want to like this because it's the enemy and all, but i loved it! it was probably one of the best flash mob scenes i've ever seen. christy, have you seen the one by improv everywhere at the mall? it just might change your mind about musicals

Thanks so much for this! It makes me so happy to see people coming together like this and enjoying it and making other people happy as well. Gives me faith in the human race.
